Building strong readers, one story at a time.
DIL’s Tablet Reading Program—launched as Read to Grow, Read to Know (RGRK), is designed to build reading fluency and comprehension in early grades by integrating technology with proven literacy strategies. But this program is far more than e-books on tablets.
Serving students in grades 1–4, it pairs phonics-based digital stories with a sequenced set of guided activities—from shared and paired reading to independent practice. Operated in dedicated library spaces by trained librarians and English teachers, the program ensures every child receives the focused reading support they need to progress confidently.
Students access over 300 vocabulary-controlled e-books from Starfall and other OERs, starting with phonics-based texts and progressing to more advanced stories.
Educators complete an eight-day training covering tablet use, classroom strategies, and navigation techniques for high-quality reading experiences.
Students read during dedicated library periods that prioritize exploration, practice, and joy in reading.
Structured sessions use audio-supported digital stories to build pronunciation, fluency, and comprehension, especially in paired and solo reading.
Children borrow books to continue their reading journey beyond the classroom.

The Tablet Reading Program meets children at a pivotal learning stage—when they transition from learning to read to reading to learn. But it does more than boost skills—it cultivates joy, confidence, and a love of stories.
In Pakistan, fluency in English is essential for accessing higher education. By building these foundational language skills early, the program not only supports academic progress—it opens doors to future opportunities.
Students consistently show improved fluency, comprehension, and motivation—laying the groundwork for lifelong learning.
The Tablet Reading Program (RGRK) is not just a reading program—it is a movement toward educational equity and lifelong learning. By combining technology with literacy, the best practices, DIL is breaking barriers and opening doors for thousands of students. As we look to the future, continued investment in RGRK will enable us to sustain and expand this vital initiative, ensuring that no child is left behind in the journey to literacy.
